About Us
The New England Rose Society (NERS) has been a cornerstone of rose education and appreciation in the region since its founding in 1940.
Our roots trace back to a group of passionate rosarians who gathered at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, driven by a shared desire to cultivate and promote the love of roses. Over the decades, we have grown into a thriving community dedicated to fostering knowledge, camaraderie, and excellence in rose culture.
Our history is rich with tradition, from organizing rose exhibitions and publishing educational bulletins to providing hands-on guidance for gardeners. During World War II, NERS members even brought cut roses from their gardens to brighten the days of hospitalized soldiers. For more than 80 years, we have remained committed to advancing rose cultivation and ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and resilience of these remarkable flowers.

Today, our mission is simple: to inspire, educate, and support gardeners in growing beautiful and healthy roses.
Whether you are a beginner planting your first rose or an experienced grower refining your techniques, NERS offers a welcoming and knowledgeable community. We prioritize:
Education

Through monthly meetings, expert-led workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, we share best practices on rose selection, pruning, fertilization, disease management, and more.
Exhibition & Appreciation

Our Annual Rose Show at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill highlights the best blooms in the region and fosters friendly competition among growers.
Sustainability & Innovation

We embrace modern rose varieties that are disease-resistant and adaptable, making rose growing more accessible and enjoyable for all gardeners.
Community & Fellowship

We believe in the power of connection, offering members opportunities to learn, share, and celebrate their love of roses together.
