New England Rose Society Officers
Meet Our Officers for 2025

Lauren Gisel
President | Committees: Rose Show, Membership, Program and Awards
Lauren grew up in Connecticut with her sister Regan and now lives in southern New Hampshire (Zone 6a) with her two toddlers, two lively corgis, and a curious cat. Her first rose, David Austin's Desdemona, was a gift from Regan, soon followed by Jubilee Celebration and Distant Drums.
In 2024, she transformed half an acre of lawn into mixed perennial beds, gravel paths, and a thriving dahlia patch—a project filled with lessons in irrigation, soil balance, and determined voles. She cherishes early mornings in the garden, coffee in hand, visiting the flowers before the day begins.

Regan Duffee
Vice President | Committees: Rose Show, Membership, Program and Awards
Regan, with her sister, Lauren, grew up in Connecticut, just a mile away from the renowned Elizabeth Park Rose Garden. Since moving to Stoneham, MA, with her husband and their 5-year-old Pomeranian, Yoshi, Regan enjoys gardening in her mostly shaded backyard.
In 2024, she took out the overgrown landscape shrubs that were stealing all the sunny spots, and put in a new rose garden, which included some of her favorites: Marilyn Monroe, Abraham Darby, Evelyn, Sweet Juliet, Distant Drums, and Celestial Night. Like any rosarian, Regan can always find space for another rose and has a garden of potted roses in her full-sun driveway.

Maria Connell
Treasurer | Committees: Membership
Following a holistic approach, Maria is a numbers person who is passionate about the broad ecosystem and ensuring lasting success. She is blessed with two green thumbs, having a magic touch with plants and with money. Not to mention, Rose is her middle name!
Maria joined NERS in 2018 after seeking a local resource knowledgeable in growing this beloved flower. She had begun expanding her garden design plans at her home in Salem, MA and recognized the benefits of learning from others more experienced. Embracing serendipity while attending her first meeting in September, she agreed to explore the Treasurer role that was opening and ultimately embarked on new layers of her journey by stepping into her first Executive Board position with a Nonprofit organization.

Valentina Nardini
Secretary & Web Designer
Originally from Florence in the Tuscany region, Italy, Valentina began her gardening journey in New Hampshire after purchasing a home with some land. She started by growing vegetables and herbs, reconnecting with her culinary roots. For her wedding celebration, she added a few roses and other flowers, sparking a lifelong passion for roses.
Together with her husband, John, she later moved to Stow, MA, where they are now cultivating a one-acre property, building both a perennial and a kitchen garden. Some of her favorite roses include English varieties like Darcey Bussell, Pope John Paul II, and William Shakespeare 2000, which she first admired at the rose garden in Florence, Italy.

Barbara LeDuc
Deputy Treasurer & Consulting Rosarian
Barbara LeDuc Ph.D., learned to love roses from her grandmother in the 1950s.
Today, Barbara is a Consulting Rosarian who favors fragrant roses, especially older varieties and hybrid teas, and she digs out lawn wherever there is sufficient sunlight for them. Her favorite roses are Mr. Lincoln and Distant Drums.

Jeanette Danehy
Immediate Past President
Jeannette Danehy has loved roses for as long as she can remember. Her Dad loved the land and taught me to. But I wasn’t interested in growing vegetables as he did or fruit trees. My love was flowers, especially roses. She has grown roses for over 40 yrs, and now has approximately 150 now in her garden. Jeannette has been a member of NERS for 20 yrs, & a member of ARS for approximately 15 yrs.
She is a Consulting rosarian with ARS, a Horticultural judge, and a past President of NERS. Many of our members meet Jeannette first since she takes care of rose plants and sells them for Mahoney’s Garden Center in Winchester, where she has worked for 10 years. She frequently gives seminars on taking care of roses. After all these years, her love for roses continues to grow.

Lisa French
Librarian
Lisa came to New England in 2009, after years living in the South and on the West Coast. Living on the Boston South Shore is wonderful - finally a climate where her favorite plants do well (except for the beloved Lady Banks).
Over the years, roses have taken over the yard - a mix of species and old garden roses along with David Austins, rambling and climbing wherever possible. The last grassy spot became a perennial garden with phlox, penstemon and hollyhocks, verbascum, Jupiter’s Beard and yarrow. Now she spends hours and hours all summer sitting in the garden, watering. It’s a labor of love, always learning from others in the New England Rose Society, trying to make her roses as happy as the roses make her.

Christine Fort
Committees: Display Gardens
Christine is passionate about making rose gardens and rose gardening more sustainable and accessible. Her love of roses began when she was a teenager growing up in Northern California (Zone 9b) in the 1990s. She now lives in Greater Boston (Zone 6b), where she has learned a lot over the last decade about growing roses in a colder climate!
Christine joined New England Rose Society in 2024 because she wanted to meet fellow rose enthusiasts and hone her growing and propagation skills. Her mixed rose, flower, herb, and vegetable garden is a work in progress. Her hound dog, Tess, assists with digging.

Chu Jong
Consulting Rosarian & Webmaster

David Cannistraro
Director At Large
David grew up in a Sicilian family in Waltham, helping his grandmother with her large garden. He met Old Garden Rose expert Malcome Lowe (Mike), who inspired him to grow roses. After moving to Stow, MA, he joined NERS and ARS, and his collection grew from a few roses to around 300.
After helping with a local rose garden and meeting Cindy Fraser, Dave founded Just Roses. Now maintaining 35 gardens, he became a Consulting Rosarian, wrote articles, and gave seminars. Nominated for Master Rosarian and trained as a Horticultural Judge, he’s now hybridizing promising seedlings, and though age slows him, his passion for roses drives him forward.

Teresa Mosher
Director At Large
Teresa Mosher is one of New England’s leading Garden and Rose Consultants, with over 40 years of experience cultivating stunning landscapes. A lifelong gardener, her passion for flowers—especially roses—was nurtured in childhood alongside her father.
At her Methuen, Massachusetts home, she tends to 42 flower beds, over 200 roses, and more than 1,500 perennials, shrubs, and trees. A past President of the New England Rose Society, Teresa is a Master Rosarian, Horticulture Judge, and recipient of multiple prestigious awards for her contributions to horticulture. She is also an author, educator, and dedicated advocate for sharing the beauty and knowledge of gardening.

Anthony Brunetti
Director At Large
Tony has lived on Cape Cod since the age of two, growing up in Yarmouth where he spent hours in his father’s garden. In 2020, he began working at Agway, where a shipment of 1,000 roses sparked his passion, leading him to join the New England Rose Society.
With no experience, Tony exhibited his small rose collection at a local show, earning first-place ribbons and making lifelong friends. His involvement with the society grew, eventually leading to his certification as a consulting rosarian. He remains dedicated to expanding his garden and supporting the society’s growth.
